John M. Burke, PhD

Co-Founder, President, and CEO

Dr. Burke’s BS and MS are in Applied Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, in 1993 and 1995, respectively. His PhD degree is in Applied Mathematics from Arizona State University in 2003. His research interests include singularly and randomly perturbed differential equations, bifurcation theory, and applying dynamical systems theory to study and understand how cells and tissues make decisions in humans, and human disease.

Joshua Apgar, PhD

Co-Founder and CSO

Before co-founding Applied BioMath Josh was a Principal Scientist in the Systems Biology Group of the Department of Immunology and Inflammation at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals. His work leveraged physics-based models to: translate in vitro and in vivo data, assess target feasibility, understand drug mechanism of action, and predict human doses. The ultimate goal of this work was to reduce late stage attrition in drug development through a deep and quantitative interrogation of drug pharmacology and disease pathophysiology.

Lore Gruenbaum, PhD

Lore Gruenbaum, PhD

Executive Director of Biology and Pharmacology

Lore Gruenbaum is a biochemist and molecular biologist with 15 years of experience in drug discovery and clinical development of small and large molecules as well as diagnostics and personalized health care approaches. Lore was most recently employed as the Director of Biomarker Strategy, Infectious Diseases at the Roche Translational Clinical Research Center in New York City where she was responsible for drug target and biomarker identification, preclinical and clinical biomarker studies and experimental medicine studies. Lore obtained her doctorate in Biochemistry with ‘Summa cum Laude’ from the Free University of Berlin and completed her postdoctoral training in Neuroscience at Yale University in the laboratories of Prof. Tom Carew and Prof. Marina Picciotto.

Fei Hua, PhD

Director of Modeling and Simulation

Dr. Fei Hua is trained as a biologist and systems modeler with 11 years of drug discovery and development experience working in a variety of disease areas and with both large and small molecules. Before joining ABM, Dr. Hua worked at Pfizer Inc. in non-clinical groups to build systems biology models to help target differentiation, lead selection and biomarker identification.

Jennifer Park, PhD

Associate Director of Business Development

Jennifer Park is a molecular biologist and bioengineer with eight years of experience consulting with pharma and biotech to provide molecular insights to their data. Prior to Applied BioMath, Jennifer was Associate Research Director at Selventa where she oversaw scientific collaborations with industry clients in immunology, cancer and respiratory diseases. Jennifer has a BS in Bioengineering from Cornell University and PhD in Bioengineering from University of California, Berkeley. At Berkeley, she studied the effects of mechanotransduction on the differentiation of stem cells.

Co-Founder and CFO

Andrew brings over 18 years experience in growing and developing financial and operational processes to Applied BioMath. As one of the co-founders, Andrew is responsible for all business matters of Applied BioMath. He has a long track record of successfully driving shareholder value and most recently was head of finance & administration for Litle & Co., which was acquired by Vantiv in 2012. Prior to Litle, Andrew has worked for a number of startups, all in the finance and administration role.

Kristen is an experienced marketing professional focused on both strategic and tactical marketing in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry.  Prior to Applied BioMath, Kristen was the Biotech and Pharmaceutical Industry Manager at MathWorks where her responsibilities included long-term strategy development, market analysis, competitive analysis, product launches, annual operational plan development and implementation, marketing content creation, and overall sales support.
