Title: Why you must “Model for modeling’s sake” and other career advice for the modeling scientist
Abstract: In the immortal words of George Box, “all models are wrong, but some are useful”. I will be presenting modeling vignettes from various projects over time to illustrate how my background in engineering theory, my self-professed avoidance of biological pedagogy, and my development of “minimal-complexity” models of biological systems have led me to become useful as a manager of wet-bench biologists and drug hunters.
Jishnu Das, PhD, Postdoctoral Associate at MIT
Title: Studying the immune system using computational systems biology approaches
Abstract: I will present a couple of examples of how computational systems biology approaches can be used to elucidate molecular mechanisms of both vaccine-mediated and natural immunity. My talk will encompass the challenges associated with the modeling methods, and how I attempted to overcome them. I will also discuss approaches that I used to translate core quantitative results into insights of potential biological significance.
