Implementation of mechanistic multiscale modeling to improve biological understanding and drive decision making in immuno-oncology
Quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP) modeling focusing on immune-system modulating cancer therapies is a rapidly growing and exciting field among pharmaceutical companies. It is well documented that the scarcity of clinical data especially in early stages of clinical trials renders traditional PK/PD approaches problematic. In addition, the disease complexity as well as the multitude of immune cell types involved in the tumor microenvironment, renders a systems approach as the necessary strategy to understand any relevant therapeutic intervention outcome. This talk will highlight potential avenue to develop multiscale mechanistic models with impact on biological understanding and also how a systems analysis can facilitate decision making in this therapeutic area.
